Frequently Asked Questions...
How to connect my laptop running verizon 3g broadband to my xbox360 to play online?
Ive seen some videos on youtube explaining how to do this with wi-fi and ive applied the same. Because its a work laptop, in the network connections i have around 5 possible bridging possibilities. Ive messed around trying to get it to work and tested it on xbox. Xbox fails to recognized the ip address.
Im running XP, have installed WWAN verizon card. Under network connections I have four broadband (1 option). Dail-up (3 options). LAN or High speed Internet (5 options) work VPN, 1394 net adapter, Wi-Fi, 82566MM gigabit network connection and PC card WWAN controller. Network Bridge (0). Im trying to us an Ethernet cable. What do I need to do?
Answer:
The 82566MM is your Ethernet, VPN is ignorable, I394 is ignorable, Wi-fi is also ignorable, WWAN is your verizon. Anything under dial up is ignorable. Follow my instructions now and you will have wireless Xbox Live. Unless your Company set up the network bridge, you should delete it.
Ok, first off do you have a "crossover" LAN(LAN aka ethernet) cable? You can get them premade at Best Buy Your going to need one of those to do this, if you don't have one your Xbox won't even talk to your laptop, making the rest of this impossible.
Second your going to have to enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Look it up in Help in Windows for the easiest way to turn it on. Third once your Xbox is plugged into your Laptop your going to want to setup Static IP addresses on both the laptop's wired ethernet(not the wireless, that stays automatic) and the Xbox360.
To do this on your computer: XP= Go to start menu, Accessories, Communications, Network Devices(or similar I can't remember exactly), right click on your wired ethernet adapter and click properties> "SKIP VISTA"
. Vista=Start menu, Network, Network and Sharing Center, Manage Network Connections, right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select properties.
. Once you open the properties box you should see a list of protocols, clients, and services. Your going to highlight the TCP/IP V4 protocol and click properties. In the next window you will click the two radio buttons labeled "Use the Following..." Now for the first the IP address your going to type 192.168.0.1 and hit enter, the subnet 255.255.255.0 should automatically appear. Skip the Gateway.
Now for DNS your going to have to right click the Verizion 3G connection and select status then details, look for IPv4 DNS Server. Write down both of the DNS IP addresses, your going to type that in on your Xbox, too.
Now boot into your Xbox 360 and go into the Settings Blade, Network, now select advanced Setup you'll be able to enter a static IP and DNS ip for it. Use 192.168.0.2 for the Xbox, leave the gateway blank, than input the DNS server IP addresses. Test your connection. Now whether or not it won't lag I don't know, but if you do everything right, You will be on xbox live.
